Hot Car Seat solutions?!?

I'm hoping some moms out there can help.  Squirmy is still in his Chicco cortina KeyFit carrier car seat/ stroller system thingy.  I do my best to keep the car as cool as possible in the awful record heat in FL.  I keep a sun shade up when we're out, keep the car seat inside even if he's not in the seat, turn on the car before I put him in, and keep the a/c BLASTING (not very green and it's killing my gas mileage).  I dress him coolly and have given up on socks and/or shoes (I love having him dressed to the Ts when we go out).  He does much better in the car if he's swaddled (via SwaddleMe cloths...love them!).  I've started leaving his feet out and just swaddling his arms in the light cotton SwaddleMe.  If I don't swaddle him his moro reflex startles him too much with stop and go and he cries the whole time...which makes him hotter.

And yet...I still pull out a sweating baby EVERY time :(  I'm afraid to swaddle his arms to make him hotter, but if I don't he fusses and makes himself even MORE sweaty.  At home he's not a typically warm baby.  In fact, at night he wears warm sleepers, gets swaddled in a fleece SwaddleMe, and dons a hat....and never sweats.

Does anyone have any tips to keep our boy cool in the car?

Have you tried the Cold Seat? I bought one from BabyHalfOff.com (a month or so ago, so they don't have them now). You keep it in the freezer and put it on while the baby is not in the seat then take it off before you put the baby in, but it is working wonders for us in the Arizona heat. My little guy is a very sweaty baby, especially in the car.

We also recently took him out of his infant seat, which had a nylon-like cover, and put him in the toddler seat, which has a seat that makes him sweat a lot less. I think they put the nylon-ish covers on the infant seats so that they're easier to clean, but man did they make him sweat!

The Chicco Keyfit is an insanely hot seat. My son was born in February, and was always sweating (in the snow!) in that seat. The cold seat sounds awesome though!

Thanks ladies!! I have a convertible car seat in the garage that we were going to start using when he could sit up on his own. I might have to bust it out sooner (not like he stays in his car seat in stores and such very much anyway...he much prefers his marsupial carrier). I'll look into the cool seat thing, too. It's so miserably hot here...record highs already :(

Yay!! Yesterday Babyhalfoff had the cool seat again!! A friend who'd read my post saw it and sent over a link! I can't wait for Squirmy to try it out.

I still can't decide if I should keep him in the non-breathing infant car seat that can be taken out of the car, or switch it to the possibly more breathable convertible car seat that stays in the car...
